About the course

The course is designed to give you understanding and practice in a number of basic counselling and communication skills which will enhance the way you interact with those around you. We also focus on improving your own awareness and understanding of human behaviour.

Counselling and Communication Skills include:-

  • Communication Skills and meeting people Minimal encouragement
  • Listening and attending
  • Paraphrasing
  • Asking helpful questions
  • Identifying, Reflecting and Expressing Feelings
  • Non-Verbal Communication

Subjects you will cover on the course include:-

  • What is Counselling?
  • Different approaches to Psychology and Counselling
  • Understanding Depression
  • Bereavement and Loss.
  • Stages of Recovery
  • Adlerian Counselling: Individual Psychology
  • Developing a positive self-concept
  • Carl Rogers- Person Centred Counselling
  • Handling Anger
  • Patterns of Stress

Entry Requirements and Accreditation

The course is open to anyone above 18 years old who has an interest in understanding the counselling process, enhancing their own personal development and understanding human behaviour. A certificate of attendance is given by the Adlerian Society of Wales. All students intending to continue on to a Counselling Certificate Course keep a reflective journal which is submitted for assessment.
